Si no eres quien realmente eres, no eres. Esto, que parece un trabalenguas, es el punto partida de esta exposición en la que se da visibilidad, en tono de denuncia y reivindicación, a la discriminación por orientación sexual, identidad y expresión de genero desde la perspectiva del hombre. Veremos maquillaje y tacones, hombres desnudos con la cabeza tapada para esconderse de un mundo hostil, secretos inconfesables, medias rotas, referencias culturales, miradas tristes, representantes de los poderes fácticos que deciden cuáles de los derechos humanos lo son y cuáles no, y otros que con su silencio incurren en el delito de omisión. Imágenes en ocasiones provocadoras que no deberían de escandalizar a nadie, que buscan remover conciencias sobre la realidad que sufren aquellos hombres que aún se ven empujados a llevar un pasamontañas invisible que esconda su auténtica identidad sexual.
If you’re not who you really are, you’re not. Although this seems like a tongue-twister, it is the starting point of this exhibition, which takes condemnatory, protesting tone to give visibility to discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, identity and gender expression from the perspective of men. You’ll see makeup and high heels, naked men with their heads covered to hide from a hostile world, untellable secrets, torn stockings, cultural references, sorrowful gazes, representatives of the powers-that-be who decide what are and are not human rights, and others whose silence is a sin of omission. Some of the images are provocative, but they should not scandalise anyone; they seek to jolt us into awareness of the reality suffered by men who are still driven to wear an invisible mask that conceals their true sexual identity.
