Helena Almeida (1934–2018) fue una artista portuguesa cuya práctica, fundamental para el feminismo internacional, redefinió los límites entre fotografía, performance y dibujo. Desde finales de los años sesenta, incorporó su propio cuerpo como eje de una investigación sobre la relación entre imagen, espacio y subjetividad. Lejos del autorretrato convencional, sus obras—frecuentemente en blanco y negro e intervenidas—articulan una coreografía contenida y crítica. Helena Almeida (1934–2018) was a Portuguese artist whose practice, central to international feminist discourse, redefined the boundaries between photography, performance, and drawing. From the late 1960s onward, she positioned her own body at the core of an inquiry into image, space, and subjectivity. Moving beyond conventional self-portraiture, her works—often in black and white and subsequently altered—stage a restrained yet critical choreography. Widely exhibited, her work offers a sustained reflection on the body, confinement, and representation.
