Isaac Julien, born in East London and co-founder of Sankofa Film and Video, develops an audiovisual practice focused on race, gender, and migration. His politically engaged and experimental cinema challenges heteronormative narratives while producing alternative imaginaries. From Looking for Langston to his later video installations, he explores temporality, archives, and cultural institutions. The museum, the screen, and the exhibition space become critical sites where representation and the displacement of the image are continuously reconfigured.
