José Manuel Ballester (Madrid, 1960) es un pintor y fotógrafo español cuya trayectoria transita desde las artes plásticas hacia una singular relectura de la imagen fotográfica. Formado en Bellas Artes en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, inicia su carrera pictórica con especial atención a las tradiciones italianas y flamencas, para posteriormente orientarse, desde los años noventa, hacia la fotografía arquitectónica.
Su obra explora el espacio, la luz y la ausencia, proponiendo una mirada depurada sobre la arquitectura contemporánea. Ha expuesto internacionalmente en instituciones y ferias como ARCO, Paris Photo o el Art Institute of Chicago, y sus trabajos forman parte de importantes colecciones públicas. En 2010 recibió el Premio Nacional de Fotografía por su aportación a la renovación del lenguaje fotográfico y su interpretación del espacio arquitectónico.
José Manuel Ballester (Madrid, 1960) is a Spanish painter and photographer whose career moves from the visual arts toward a distinctive reinterpretation of the photographic image. Trained in Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid, he began as a painter influenced by Italian and Flemish traditions before shifting in the 1990s toward architectural photography.
His work explores space, light, and absence, offering a refined perspective on contemporary architecture. He has exhibited internationally at institutions and fairs such as ARCO, Paris Photo, and the Art Institute of Chicago, and his works are held in major public collections. In 2010 he received the Spanish National Photography Award for his contribution to the renewal of photographic language and his interpretation of architectural space.
