Sebastián Díaz Morales (Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina, 1975) vive y trabaja en Ámsterdam. Su formación incluye la Universidad del Cine de Buenos Aires, la Rijksakademie de Ámsterdam y Le Fresnoy en Francia. Su obra está profundamente influida por el paisaje de su ciudad natal, una zona industrial entre el Atlántico y el desierto patagónico, que marca su particular concepción de la realidad.
Desde sus inicios, su práctica cuestiona la idea de una realidad única y estable. En sus películas, la cámara no funciona como un dispositivo de registro fiel, sino como una herramienta epistemológica para interrogar y reconfigurar lo real. Para Díaz Morales, la realidad posee un carácter intrínsecamente ficcional, y el cine no transporta a un mundo irreal, sino que desestabiliza lo familiar.
Su obra ha sido presentada en instituciones como Tate Modern, Centre Pompidou, Stedelijk Museum o la Bienal de Venecia, y forma parte de importantes colecciones internacionales. En 2009 recibió la Beca Guggenheim, consolidando una trayectoria centrada en la exploración crítica de la percepción y la construcción de la realidad.
Sebastián Díaz Morales (Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina, 1975) lives and works in Amsterdam. He studied at the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires, the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam, and Le Fresnoy in France. His work is deeply shaped by the landscape of his birthplace, an industrial city located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Patagonian Desert, which informs his particular understanding of reality.
From the outset, his practice questions the notion of a single, stable reality. In his films, the camera does not operate as a device for faithful recording but as an epistemic tool for interrogating and reconfiguring the real. For Díaz Morales, reality is inherently fictional, and cinema does not transport the viewer into an unreal world but destabilizes what is familiar.
His work has been exhibited at institutions such as Tate Modern, the Centre Pompidou, the Stedelijk Museum, and the Venice Biennale, and is included in major international collections. In 2009 he received a Guggenheim Fellowship, consolidating a career dedicated to the critical exploration of perception and the construction of reality.
