En finés, la palabra pyytää, verbo del que deriva el sustantivo pyynti significa “pedir algo” o “solicitar ayuda”. La misma palabra se utiliza también en relación a la pesca, referida tanto a los aparejos y redes como al propio acto de pescar. Se pide el pescado, no se pesca ni se coge como en muchos otros idiomas. La pesca como una relación de dar y recibir, en la que las personas muestran respeto por el mundo natural que las provee, es un concepto antiguo y ampliamente reconocido.
Pyynti, del fotógrafo finlandés Antti J. Leinonen, es un trabajo sobre la pesca como profesión y sobre el trabajo de los pescadores de la bahía de Bothnian. Las imágenes que componen el proyecto, realizadas entre 2014 y 2023, exploran la relación entre el ser humano y el mar y plantea cuestiones en torno a la explotación de los recursos naturales.
In Finnish, the word pyytää, a verb coming from the noun pyynti, means ‘to request something’ or ‘to ask for help’. The same word is also used in fishing to refer to both tackle and nets and the act of fishing itself. The fish is asked, not fished or caught as in many other languages. Fishing, viewed as a give-and-take relationship in which people show respect for the natural world that sustains them, is an ancient and broadly acknowledged concept.
Pyynti, by the Finnish photographer Antti J. Leinonen, is a work on fishing as a profession and on the work of the fishers in Bothnian Bay. The images comprising the project, taken between 2014 and 2023, explore the relationship between human beings and the sea and pose questions about the exploitation of natural resources.
