Para esta edición, en la que la programación gira en torno al concepto de Perpetuum Mobile, PHotoESPAÑA se suma de la mano de la empresa de transporte Palibex a la colección Truck Art Project, una iniciativa cultural para difundir arte de vanguardia de manera accesible e innovadora. Así, este proyecto de arte sobre ruedas, puesto en marcha en 2016, posibilita que una flota de camiones se convierta en soporte o lienzo para diferentes artistas de la escena contemporánea. Convertidos en galerías itinerantes, los vehículos industriales mantienen sus rutas habituales por toda la geografía española.
Hasta ahora, Truck Art Project ha estado conformado por un muestrario vivo de las tendencias más actuales de la pintura, el dibujo y el arte urbano en España, alejado del cubo blanco y destinado a un receptor que no es el habitual del arte contemporáneo en contextos que tampoco le son favorables.
En 2024, el proyecto pone el foco en la fotografía y convierte cuatro camiones en soporte de obras de cuatro artistas visuales: Manuela Lorente, Bubi Canal, Tanit Plana y Ana Palacios. Cada vehículo intervenido realiza su recorrido partiendo de cada una de las cuatro ciudades donde el Festival vuelve a tener una presencia destacada: Madrid, Santander, Valladolid y Zaragoza. El resultado es una colección de arte móvil que reta al artista a enfrentarse a escalas a las que probablemente antes no había atendido y que nos transforma en espectadores

Manuela Lorente. Su fotografía documental mezcla realidad y ficción y en sus proyectos entran en juego el costumbrismo, la cultura popular, las relaciones personales, la tradición y la identidad de la ciudad de Madrid. Un camión que hace su recorrido precisamente en esta ciudad muestra cuatro imágenes seleccionadas de dos de sus series más recientes: Él pone la música, nosotros bailamos y Y esta rata, quién la mata.
Bubi Canal. Fotógrafo, vídeoartista y escultor cántabro afincado en Nueva York, un camión que recorre Santander está intervenido por dos imágenes de su serie Horizon, en la que aborda de forma lúdica realidades alternativas donde el juego y la espontaneidad están muy presentes.
Ana Palacios. La fotoperiodista pretende con su trabajo hacer visibles las comunidades vulnerables con un sentido de optimismo y esperanza. En esta ocasión, tres fotografías de su serie Art in Movement, en las que el salto simboliza la liberación por parte de niños que han superado la exclusión social, se pueden ver en un camión que hace su recorrido habitual por Valladolid.
Tanit Plana. Profundidad y superficie es último proyecto en el que trabaja Tanit Plana desde hace meses y que se muestra, en parte, en los laterales de un camión que recorre Zaragoza. Un cuento sobre la “brutalización” de los cuerpos que cruzan la frontera para entrar en España y que aúna afectos, fotografía y sensibilización y posicionamiento político sobre la emigración.
For this edition, in which the programme revolves around the concept of Perpetuum Mobile, PHotoESPAÑA and the transport company Palibex are joining the Truck Art Project, a cultural initiative aimed at disseminating avant-garde art in an accessible, innovative way. This art-on-wheels project, which was launched in 2016, makes it possible for a fleet of lorries to become the backdrop or canvas for different artists on the contemporary scene. Turned into travelling galleries, these industrial vehicles keep to their regular routes all over Spain.
To date, the Truck Art Project has been comprised of a living sample of the latest trends in painting, drawing and urban art in Spain, nothing to do with the white cube and instead aimed at recipients who are uncommon in contemporary art, in settings that are also not favourable to it.
In 2024, the project is spotlighting photography by turning four lorries into the backdrops of artworks by four visual artists: Manuela Lorente, Bubi Canal, Tanit Plana and Ana Palacios. Each art-clad vehicle will make its routes starting from one of the four cities where the Festival is once again featured: Madrid, Santander, Valladolid and Zaragoza. The outcome is a mobile art collection which challenges the artists to deal with scales they have probably never worked on before, and which transforms us into unwitting, temporary spectators of their photographic projects.
Authors:
Manuela Lorente. Her documentary photography mixes reality and fiction and in her projects come into play the costumbrismo, popular culture, personal relationships, tradition and identity of the city of Madrid. A truck that makes its route precisely in this city shows four images selected from two of her most recent series: He plays the music, we dance and And this rat, who kills it.
Bubi Canal. Photographer, video artist and sculptor from Cantabria based in New York, a truck traveling through Santander is intervened by two images from his series Horizon, in which he playfully addresses alternative realities where play and spontaneity are very present.
Ana Palacios. The photojournalist aims with her work to make vulnerable communities visible with a sense of optimism and hope. On this occasion, three photographs from her series Art in Movement, in which the jump symbolizes the liberation of children who have overcome social exclusion, can be seen in a truck that makes its usual route through Valladolid.
Tanit Plana. Depth and surface is the latest project in which Tanit Plana has been working for months and which is shown, in part, on the sides of a truck that travels through Zaragoza. A story about the “brutalization” of the bodies that cross the border to enter Spain and that combines affection, photography and awareness and political positioning on emigration.
