Chema Madoz (Madrid, 1958) es uno de los artistas españoles más reconocidos en la fotografía contemporánea a nivel nacional e internacional. Durante los años 80, sus imágenes presentan un carácter teatral y surrealista, con cierta influencia de Magritte. A partir de los años 90, abandona el azar para centrarse en la recreación de imágenes mentales. Deja de utilizar elementos externos como la luz natural o modelos y desarrolla un lenguaje basado en objetos, siempre en blanco y negro, con una iluminación cuidada y una presentación minimalista. La mirada subjetiva del espectador y un lenguaje visual más elaborado y enigmático se convierten en ejes centrales de su obra.

Su trabajo ha sido expuesto en numerosas galerías, museos y centros de arte tanto en España como a nivel internacional. Ha recibido importantes reconocimientos como la Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes (2019), el Premio Nacional de Fotografía, el Premio PhotoEspaña y el Premio Aula de las Metáforas.

Chema Madoz (Madrid, 1958) is one of the most internationally acclaimed Spanish artists in contemporary photography. During the 1980s, his photographs display a theatrical and surreal quality, with a clear influence from Magritte. From the 1990s onward, he moved away from chance, focusing instead on the construction of mental images. He stopped using external elements such as natural light or models and began developing a language centered on objects, always in black and white, with carefully controlled lighting and minimalist presentation. The subjective gaze of the viewer, along with a more complex and enigmatic visual language, became central to his work.

His work has been exhibited widely in galleries, museums, and art institutions both in Spain and internationally. He has received major awards including the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts (2019), the National Photography Prize, the PhotoEspaña Award, and the Aula de las Metáforas Prize.
